# USDG, the loan currency

Every Ethosis loan is denominated in **USDG**, the Paxos Global Dollar. That covers the principal, the interest, the fees and whatever a liquidation auction raises.

## The case for USDG

| Consideration | What it means for Ethosis |
| ------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Issued natively | USDG is minted directly on Robinhood Chain, not bridged in, so no bridge sits in the settlement path. |
| Already used for lending on the chain | The chain's first lending product, Robinhood Earn, runs on USDG through Morpho. The liquidity and integrations are therefore already in place. |
| Regulatory status | USDG is regulated under MiCA in the EU. For a protocol whose main market is the EEA that matters. |
| Works with idle capital | The whitelisted Morpho vault used for [idle capital](/protocol/idle-capital.md) holds USDG. |

## Other loan currencies

Because `loanToken` forms part of the market key, introducing a second loan currency means configuring a fresh, isolated market; existing loans are untouched. Two candidates exist:

* **USDe**, which is already on Robinhood Chain.
* **USDC over CCTP**, once there is confirmed bridged liquidity on the chain.

Three conditions have to hold before any new loan currency is added: bridged liquidity has been confirmed, the token's pause and blacklist behaviour has been reviewed, and an idle-capital vault for it exists. As with every other parameter, the addition passes through the timelock.

## Units and rounding

USDG has 6 decimals; Stock Tokens have 18. `PriceGate` returns a price expressed in loan-token base units per whole collateral token, and `LoanDesk` values collateral as `amount × price / 10^collateralDecimals`. LTV and interest calculations therefore stay in loan-token units throughout. The invariant suite verifies this arithmetic.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.ethosis.org/assets/usdg.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
